Your Experience Guides Adjustments
Feedback-Informed Treatment
A session can help and still miss something important. Feedback-Informed Treatment asks about your experience of the work and your relationship with the therapist.

Who This Is For
FIT invites discussion of what feels helpful or uncomfortable in therapy. Joseph is trained in FIT and discusses adjustments using client feedback.
- Questions about the session focus
- Difficulty saying something felt off
- Changes in goals or priorities
- Feedback about the therapist relationship
Focus of Care
What We Work On
Brief Check-Ins
Your view of how therapy is going.
The Working Relationship
How heard and understood you feel with the therapist.
Helpful Work
Parts of a session that relate to your concerns.
Adjustments
Changes to focus, pace or approach worth discussing.
How We Work
We draw on FIT through brief check-ins about your experience of therapy and the relationship with your clinician. Feedback can sit alongside CBT, MI or other methods. We talk about what works, what helps, and what makes sense rather than treating a method as the whole answer.
- Feedback-Informed Treatment
- CBT when relevant
- MI when relevant
- Shared review of goals

What Can Shift
A concern about the pace or focus can become part of the session instead of something you keep to yourself afterward. We can revisit a goal or explain the reason for a method. Honest feedback includes the parts that did not feel useful.
What Sessions Look Like
During a 50-minute appointment, a brief check-in can open discussion of a previous session or the current focus. We make time to understand your response instead of treating it as a score to defend.
Care is offered in person in San Diego and by telehealth across California. Joseph's FIT training informs feedback conversations in either format, with scheduling and clinician availability discussed before appointments.
Discussing Feedback-Focused Care
A free 15-minute phone consultation can include questions about Joseph's methods. We can discuss insurance and superbills; coverage depends on your plan.
Fees in Brief
Individual, couples and family sessions are 50 minutes. We are in network with many plans and provide superbills for out-of-network benefits. Contact us for rates.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Does FIT Ask About?
FIT includes how therapy is going and how the therapist relationship feels. A brief check-in gives us a starting point for discussing your experience.
Can I Say a Session Was Not Helpful?
Yes, that response belongs in the conversation. We can explore what felt missing and discuss a different focus or pace.
Does Feedback Decide Everything About Treatment?
No, we discuss it alongside your concerns and clinical judgment. Your perspective helps us consider adjustments rather than replacing the conversation about care.
Can FIT Be Combined With Other Methods?
Yes, feedback can guide discussion while we use CBT, MI or another approach. It helps us review whether the current work still relates to your goals.
