Patterns and Connection

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

One person asks for reassurance, the other pulls back, and both feel farther apart. EFT helps us look at that cycle and the feelings underneath it, rather than deciding who started the argument.

Focus of Care

What We Work On

  • Relationship Cycles

The sequence of reactions that keeps returning.

  • Underlying Feelings

Fear, hurt or longing beneath a tense exchange.

  • Emotional Needs

What reassurance or closeness means to you.

  • Connection

Ways of expressing needs and hearing another person.

How We Work

We draw on EFT to slow down an interaction and hear what each response is protecting. The focus includes secure connection and emotional patterns. CBT can add a way to examine thoughts that make a conversation feel more threatening or final.

What Can Shift

A withdrawal or sharp response can be discussed as part of a cycle instead of a complete description of a person. We practice putting the underlying need into words. Wanting closeness and finding it difficult can both belong in the conversation.

What Sessions Look Like

During a 50-minute session, we may return to a recent disagreement and pause at the moment the tone changed. In individual work, we can explore your part in a pattern without needing the other person present.

Travis offers weekday daytime and evening telehealth across California. The practice also provides in-person care in San Diego; we discuss clinician fit and available methods before you choose an appointment format.

Discussing EFT and Clinician Fit

A free 15-minute phone consultation can cover relationship concerns and availability. We can also discuss insurance and superbills, with coverage dependent on plan and service.

Fees in Brief

Individual, couples and family sessions are 50 minutes. We are in network with many plans and provide superbills for out-of-network benefits. Contact us for rates.
